Thoughts (100-Word Flash Non-Fiction)

Flash Fiction/Non-Fiction / Thursday, January 18th, 2018

You’re in Infant School.

You can hear kids playing outside, but you’re inside. The teacher, you forget her name, is teaching you and a couple of others about recycling.

She places a variety of objects in front of your crossed legs. Empty cans of Coke, empty packets of crisps, balls of tin foil, and whatnot.

“Which of these is recyclable?”

“Which one isn’t?”

She introduces a strange word: “Biodegradable” and tries to teach you all its meaning.

Then she asks, “What isn’t biodegradable?”

You distinctly remember saying two words, “Our thoughts.”

She looked completely lost. “What did you say?”

“Thoughts.”
